Form I-9 News: New Form and New Process for Remote Review of Documents
New Form I-9 Will Be Released August 1, 2023
USCIS has announced that they will publish a revised Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification on August 1, 2023.
The Form has been streamlined as well as updated to support a highly anticipated new process that permits employers enrolled in E-Verify to remotely examine their employee’s identity and employment authorization documents under a DHS-authorized “Alternative Procedure”.
To qualify to use this “Alternative Procedure” employers must:
- Be enrolled in E-Verify
- Examine and retain copies of all documents
- Conduct a live video interaction with the employee
- Create an E-Verify case if the employee is a new hire
Employers must begin using the new Form I-9 (edition date 8/1/2023) as of November 1, 2023.
