Fiscal Year 2025 H-1B Cap Reached: What You Need to Know

USCIS has announced that the H-1B visa cap for fiscal year 2025 has been reached, including both the 65,000 regular cap and the 20,000 U.S. advanced degree exemption (master’s cap).

For those not selected, USCIS will update their registration status to “Not Selected” in their online accounts over the next few days.

Options for Cap-Exempt Filings

Even with the cap reached, USCIS continues to accept H-1B petitions for:

  • Cap-exempt roles, such as current H-1B workers previously counted under a prior cap.
  • Extensions of H-1B status.
  • Changes to employment terms, employers, or concurrent employment.
