USCIS Proposes Expanded Reporting Requirements for Form AR-11 Address Changes

USCIS has proposed significant changes to Form AR-11, the form U.S. visa holders residing in the U.S. as well as U.S. permanent residents must use to report a change of address within 10 days of moving. Under the proposed revisions, individuals filing an address update would be required to provide additional information regarding:

  • Current employment;
  • School enrollment; and
  • Receipt of means-tested public benefits.

According to USCIS, the additional information would be collected as part of its address reporting requirements and may be used in immigration enforcement and benefit adjudications.

Are AR-11 Changes in Effect?

At this time, these changes are not yet in effect. USCIS published the proposal for public comment and has not issued a final version of the revised form.

Foreign nationals should continue to comply with existing address reporting requirements and file address changes within 10 days of moving. USCIS continues to encourage individuals to submit address changes through their USCIS online account rather than by paper Form AR-11, as online updates are processed more efficiently and can update pending cases more quickly.
