USCIS Announces Extensions to Temporary Protected Status (TPS)
On January 10, 2025, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced 18-month extensions of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for nationals from several countries, allowing eligible individuals to maintain their TPS and work authorization in the United States.
What is TPS?
TPS is a temporary immigration status provided to nationals of designated countries experiencing ongoing armed conflict, environmental disasters, or other extraordinary conditions that prevent safe return. Beneficiaries are permitted to live and work in the U.S. for designated periods but do not receive permanent resident status.
Recent Extensions:
The following countries have received 18-month TPS extensions:
- El Salvador: Extended through September 9, 2026.
- Sudan: Extended through October 19, 2026.
- Ukraine: Extended through October 19, 2026.
- Venezuela: Extended through October 2, 2026.
