UPDATED: DOS REPORTS TECHNICAL ISSUE WITH OVERSEAS PASSPORT AND VISA SYSTEMS
As of Thursday, June 18th, the government’s visa issuance problem, first reported by the Department of State on June 12, persists. Yesterday, Department of State’s Acting Assistant Secretary for Consular Affairs, Michele Bond, announced that the agency does not expect the problem to be resolved before next week.
This means that individuals with previously scheduled appointments should plan to appear, but also be prepared for the possibility of receiving a “cancellation” notice or rescheduled appointment. And, for anyone who may be seeking to apply for a visa in the coming weeks, we anticipate longer wait times for scheduling appointments given the likely backlog that will have developed as a result of this major technical breakdown at consular posts worldwide.
