Supreme Court Upholds DACA…For Now

Today, the Supreme Court announced a 5-4 decision to uphold the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program for now. The Court found that the Trump Administration did not follow proper procedure or properly weigh how ending the program would affect those who had come to rely on its protections when it first rescinded the program. In making this decision, the Court acknowledged that the Department of Homeland Security still has the authority to end the program, but that it must follow proper procedure in order to do so. For the time being, the DACA program remains in place and information about how the Department of Homeland Security will handle first-time and renewal applications will likely be forthcoming.
