The process of applying for an ITIN can be baffling for many foreign nationals and, in addition, there are special exceptions to the normal process for foreign students. To assist foreign students, NAFSA, the National Association of Foreign Student Advisors, in conjuction with the ITIN Policy Section of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), has posted the procedures describing this process on their website.
