How to schedule a consultation with an immigration attorney

ONLINE:

You can access our online consultation intake questionnaire 24/7 to provide us with some initial information about your matter so that we are to determine which of our attorneys is the best fit for your needs.

Immigration Law is as broad as it is complex and we have attorneys with particular depth of experience and knowledge in particular areas of immigration, such as: employment-based immigration, immigration options for investors and entrepreneurs, J-1 waivers for physicians and researchers, applications for permanent residency based on extraordinary ability and /or National Interest,  deportation defense, application for asylum and humanitarian relief, naturalization and family-based immigration, and more. The intake questionnaire requires that you provide us with your name, e-mail, at least one phone number and is most effective if you provide us with as much detail about your matter as possible. We will then contact you via phone or e-mail to schedule your consultation.

VIA PHONE:

All of our offices may be reached at : 202-483-0053

Can I meet with an attorney over the phone or via Skype or Facetime, WhatsApp, Viber etc…?

While we are available to meet in person, in our Washington DC or San Diego, CA offices, we are happy to meet via phone, Facetime, Skype or other available ”virtual” method.

What happens in the initial consultation with an immigration attorney?

The goal of your initial consultation with a Maggio Kattar attorney is for the attorney to gain a clear understanding of your current situation and future goals and for you to learn about the applicable law and possible immigration strategies available to you.

Before you meet with the Maggio Kattar attorney you will be asked to provide details of your background and relationships that are relevant to your matter and, to the extent available, relevant documents, all of which will be specified by the attorney prior to your meeting.

Generally, the Maggio Kattar attorney will budget 60 to 90 minutes for the initial consultation. During this meeting, the Maggio Kattar attorney gathers, as efficiently as possible, all relevant information, ascertains the client’s objectives, evaluates the legal and non-legal aspects of the situation, develops and analyzes possible strategies and tactics, discusses pros and cons, including cost, of each and proposes the solution they believe to be most advantageous to the client.

Many times the initial consultation is just the beginning of a longer, more substantial attorney-client relationship. Sometimes, however, the initial consultation may be all that is necessary and is the end of the attorney-client relationship. Often, however, both parties recognize the value of the client staying in touch with the attorney, either as events unfold or for further advice and guidance. Of course, many times the initial consultation is just the beginning of a longer, more substantial attorney-client relationship.

Maggio Kattar initial consultation fee

In May 2023, the fee for this initial consultation is $575. The client is expected to pay for the initial consultation at the end of the consultation. Cash, checks and all major credit cards are accepted.

To the extent that the client and attorney expect the attorney-client relationship to continue beyond the initial consultation, the client and attorney would enter into a representation agreement. The amount paid for the initial consultation would be credited toward the legal fees  proposed  in this agreement.

How much will representation cost?

Clients are expected to pay the firm for:

  1. Legal fees: Fees for the work performed by our attorneys and staff on your case and,
  2. Reimbursement of Expenses: Expenses the firm incurs on your behalf for services including:
    • Photocopying charges
    • Long distance telephone charges
    • Courier, postage, and overnight delivery charges
    • Filing fees
    • Court reporter and expert witness/evaluation charges
    • Translation charges
    • Reasonable travel and transportation charges

Our firm generally offers a “Flat Fee” arrangement for our legal fees for most matters. With this arrangement, clients know- up front what their legal fees will be and are free to communicate openly with their attorney without fear of incurring additional costs.  It is important to note that there are circumstances when a matter may exceed the parameters covered by the “Flat Fee” arrangement and this is generally noted in the representation agreement.
