Deportation and Removal Defense
Foreign nationals already in the United States or those who seek to be admitted are required to demonstrate that they are or continue to be “admissible”. Those whom the government deems inadmissible can be expelled from the United States through a procedure called “removal”, previously known as deportation or exclusion, depending on the particular immigration status of the individual. Waivers of inadmissibility are available to some; other forms of relief may also be available. These include asylum, temporary protected status, cancellation of removal, registry, among others. See also the J-1 and other Waivers section on this web site.
